– Have loose fitting clothing

– Dress while seated

– If you’re able to button, start from the bottom first

– Thread belt through loops, prior to putting pants/skirt on

– Use clothing with elastic waistbands

– Use clip on ties

– Wear a pull on or clasp in front bra

– Utilize elastic shoe laces, and keep shoes tied or utilize velcro on shoe

(American Stroke Association, 2018)

– Plan ahead, lay your clothes out

– Utilize dressing sticks, sock aid, button hook, or reacher if need to increase independence

– When dressing, thread your affected leg or arm into the item of clothing first, then thread your unaffected arm/leg

– When undressing, remove your unaffected leg or arm first, then remove your affected arm/leg
