What exactly is a physical therapist and what do they do?!

Physical therapists (PT) treat people of all ages that have disabilities, injuries, and other health conditions. Physical therapists also work with individuals who want to be healthier and prevent future concerns. (American Physical Therapy Association, n.d.)

PT’s will evaluate an individual then develop a specific treatment plan that will help increase that individual’s ability to move, restore function, prevent increasing concerns, or reduce/manage pain. PT’s can work in hospitals, outpatient settings, schools, workplaces, nursing homes, and individual’s homes. (American Physical Therapy Association, n.d.)

PT’s can specialize in a variety of areas, including pediatrics, sports, orthopedics, neurology, oncology, geriatrics, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and clinical electrophysiology. Physical therapists will continue to evaluate the individual, throughout their treatment, adjusting the plan of care as needed, and implementing successful plans for the individual’s discharge. (Physical therapist, n.d.)
