Being mobile is important for your emotional health, heart, bones, and social health. When older adults are more mobile, depression or anxiety can also be decreased! If older adults stay stationary frequently, their knees, backs, and hips will tighten up. (Cleveland Clinic, 2021)
To improve the aging process and to increase “healthy” years, older adults need to get up and move! Movement will help decrease the risk of developing diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. (Vicari, 2018) Older adults with arthritis also will have decreased stiffness in their joints with more movement.. (Cleveland Clinic, 2021)
Older adults, 65 years and older, suffer from a fall almost every second of every day in the United States. It’s also estimated that around 36 million older adults fall every year. (Cleveland Clinic, 2021) When older adults have decreased muscle strength, decreased endurance, and stiff joints, it can increase their fall risk! That is why it’s very important for older adults to continue to get up and move, to continue to keep muscle and bone strength, maintain proper balance, and remain flexible!
